Bring your kids to this course if you or your child are interested in martial arts and Shaolin Kung Fu. This course, based on the traditions of the Shaolin monastery, primarily involves Kung Fu classes. Thus, first of all the course is devoted to physical education and in addition to cultural development. The accommodation is at Shi Yanchen Traditional Shaolin Kung Fu Center's shared rooms. Twin and triple rooms in the house of Master Shi Yanchen are available at the center. The rooms are equipped with ensuite shower and European bathroom. The rooms also have a stable provision of hot water, and internet access is available at the center. Since they are a martial arts school, they consider the bedrooms to be more like a home, and not just a room. Rooms are assigned on request depending on the season.


During this course, your kids will have the opportunity to enjoy six to eight daily hours of exercises in Kung Fu style as a part of regular group of master Shi Yanchen’s students under his personal guidance. They will also experience one academic hour of Chinese every day except on weekends with a qualified teacher who does not speak English.

Beside the training, they will have special access to the Shaolin monastery two hours prior to opening with an option to take photos without tourists and a visit to Shi Yanchen master’s mentor, monk Shi Yonggan in his cell with an option to ask questions and receive answers (in Chinese). Shi Yanchen Center follows all the traditional teachings of the Shaolin monastery, spreading knowledge from masters to students. Life in school follows the rules of the family and teaches martial ethics. The school is an official training school and they teach hundreds of students from all over the world every year.

Included excursions

A visit to Faivang monastery, which is considered a younger brother of the very first Buddhist monastery in the city of Luoyang, Baimas and a visit to monk Shi Yonggan in his cell are included in this course.


Shi Yanchen


This course will take place in Dengfeng, China. The school is located directly on the same mountain as the Shaolin Monastery, away from tourists and popular places, where the beauty of the mountains is an integral part of the landscape. The school lies at the foot of the Songshan Mountains, away from the city, and has its own vegetable garden and is engaged in cultivation.

During this course, three meals will be served each day. All meals will have a choice of meat or without meat in Buddhist tradition. In the morning, for breakfast, it is usually an egg, soup or cereal based on rice, wheat or corn, and vegetables. At lunch, the main dish is most often noodles or rice in various forms and vegetables. For dinner, a broth and vegetables. And during every mealtime, they provide traditional buns, which they bake by themselves.

Things to do (optional)

During free time, it is possible to visit nearest cities of Luoyang, Kaifeng, and others with excursions available by prior arrangement for an additional cost. It is also possible to explore the local culture, tradition, and heritage, lend a helping hand in the school's garden, or take calligraphy classes.

How to get there

Recommended Airports

Arrival by airplane

Please book your flight to arrive at Beijing Capital International Airport (PEK). Then, continue your journey to Zhengzhou Xinzheng International Airport (CGO), which is the nearest major transportation hub to Shaolin Temple.

Airport transfer from Zhengzhou to Shaolin Temple available at 300 CNY for one way and 600 CNY for return.

Arrival by bus

From Zhengzhou, buses go to the city of Dengfeng, where Shaolin Temple is located. The bus ticket will cost approximately 300 CNY and you will spend about two hours on the road.

The bus is a very convenient way to get to the city, but if you are in China for the first time and don’t know the language, then Traditional Shaolin kung fu school in Dengfeng can meet you in Zhengzhou or you can take a cab for about 400 CNY.

Arrival by train

You can take a train from Beijing Capital International Airport (BJS) to arrive at Beijing Railway Station and further to Zhengzhou. The approximate cost of a speed train is 300 CNY.

Arrival by taxi

You may take a taxi from Dengfeng to the school for about 30 CNY.
