Program

Training and living in Shaolin Temple

The style of teaching and living inside the temple is very different from any other locations in China because here, you will learn the oldest traditions of the Chinese masters' teachings and will follow full time the life of the monks. At Shaolin Temple, you arrive to immerse in authentic culture and there is no limit to it.

You will live in an environment where the monks of the Shaolin Temple live. You'll eat together with the monks, and all the food is healthy and freshly prepared. The temple will do their best to help you achieve your own goals and kung fu dreams. They offer not only Kung Fu classes for short and medium term but with them, you can further specialize in Kung Fu education following their teacher training program.

The doctor monks offer personalized medical and holistic treatments; however, please note that these programs are not free of charge or included in the regular training program. Shaolin Temple constantly improves the quality of the programs. This is because their mission is to offer the best possible service to their students. It is in line with their Buddhist believes and lifestyle. The temple's world-class masters' training strategies will benefit you tremendously by helping you train to be in the best shape you can be, both physically and mentally. You will have a strong body, be great at defending yourself when needed, as well as gaining a disciplined sharp mind.

Styles

Take advantage of all the top training strategies to offer a comprehensive system that brings out the best in you. Styles offered by the temple are Shaolin Kung Fu, Shaolin boxing (Sanda), Wing Chun, Taiji Quan, Meditation, Qigong (hard and soft - Ba Duan Jin, Yi Jin Jing), Meihua Quan, Qin Na, and Ba Guazhang. Theory classes offered are Mandarin, Chinese Culture, Chinese Traditional Medicine, Chinese cooking and Buddhism philosophy.

Schedule

The training takes place inside the Yunnan Shaolin Temple. It is a Buddhist temple served by monks and nuns. Students can take part in the Buddhist Ceremony every day in the morning at 5:30 a.m. and evening at 7:00 p.m. This class is optional but is part of Buddhist education. Formal training starts at 8.30 a.m. in the temple and ends at 9 p.m. They offer seven hours of training with Shaolin monks. The timetable is very balanced and the teaching style follows the traditional way. There will be three sessions of training guided by the Shaolin masters.

Skill levels

Each student's goals are very important to the temple and the training timetable will be adjusted accordingly. Kung fu is part of life and nature, so the training is adjusted accordingly to follow the natural cycles. When a student arrives here and has no previous experience in Kung Fu, he/she is advised to follow for one week the timetable and decide what he/she likes best, so for the following weeks, the student can focus only on the personal goals. For advanced students, the temple tailors the timetable to follow their very specific goals. Each class (no matter the style) will consist of learning forms (set of exercises), stances, applications, techniques and pair work (Duilian).

With the Shaolin Temple Yunnan, in one month you can learn up to 4 forms depending on your due diligence. One month is not enough for learning well, but you can go home after and continue your practice. You will become very good and master the forms you learn with the masters. The classes will be specifically done to fit your own body quality and fitness.

Students who wish to train during weekends are free to do so. You can use the temple's equipment free of charge. If you think you wish to learn more, you can book private classes with the masters. The types of exercises at the temple include circuit training, abdominal exercises, strength exercises (push-ups, squats, jumping, pull-ups, high knee run, dumbbells, barbell, press, and so on), flexibility exercises, self-defense techniques, Hard Qigong (iron palm, iron body), Sanda (Shaolin boxing and fighting), and many more.

Weekend programs

During the weekends, students have free time to rest or train more. The temple also offers classes for families and children. This training type is also suitable for weight loss and improving the overall health condition. The temple location is the best in terms of safety for female students.
