Shi Er Duan Jin Qigong (十二段锦), translated as “Twelve Golden Treasure Brocade”, comes from ancient times known as Daoyin Qigong. Daoyin is a school of traditional bodybuilding exercises. Their emphasis on mental cultivation or consciousness training has made them unique in the world.
The regulation of breathing is the most important means to achieve mental concentration. The twelve brocade combines motion with stillness, breathing, mental practice, meditation, and reflective contemplation.
Shi Er Duan Jin Qigong is an outstanding representative of ancient Chinese health-preserving methods. It was highly praised by many medical scientists and health-preserving experts in Ming and Qing Dynasties.
It absorbed the essence of Chinese traditional culture, organically combined medical treatment, exercise, and health preservation, with the primary goal of improving the quality of life and perfecting the state of life, and advocated the harmony and unity of body and mind through self-exercise and exercise.
Twelve Duan Jin’s health-preserving thoughts systematically reflect traditional Chinese health-preserving methods’ natural, internal, and external training principles. Primarily it has a good effect on relaxing the body and mind. The Twelve Duan Jin consists of twelve movements, combining movement and static.
Among them, static exercise includes meditation, and the content of kinetic exercise includes sitting exercise and self-massage. During the exercise, breathing, guidance, and thought are coordinated, and the movements are soft, natural, smooth, and have both form and spirit. The whole set of movements is simple, straightforward, and easy to learn and practice.
Suitable for people of different ages to exercise. Long-term adherence to exercise can effectively improve physical health and achieve the fruit of preventing disease and strengthening the body.
The purpose of practicing Shi Er Duan Jin Qigong is to strengthen the body starting from the head, neck, shoulders, arms, back, waist, chest, abdomen, legs, and feet. In addition, strengthens the internal organs (heart, lungs, kidneys, stomach, liver), the senses (eyes, ears, nose, mouths, touch), and teeth.
Because the focus of the exercise is on the whole body, it provides disease-preventing, bodybuilding, and life-prolonging effects. Long-term practice helps to enhance the blood vessels’ flexibility, reduce the risk of atherosclerosis, improve heart and lung function, lower the body’s fat content, and improve the heart function and the cardiac nerve.
