Do you wish to travel to China to find the traditional training of the Shaolin Temple? Or have you been there, but you wish to continue training at some place closer and more accessible? During this martial arts camp, you have the chance to train in the Shaolin tradition, but in a much more accessible location, in sunny Greece. Through this program, Shaolin Camp in Greece aims to bring the real traditional training of Shaolin Kung Fu to the western world and to you.
During this camp, you will be staying in The Shaolin Summer Camp. The health and safety of the campers is their number one priority. The Shaolin Summer Camp is officially certified by municipality of Sikionion and is staffed with a full time on-site medical director. In the event of an emergency that their infirmary is unable to handle, Health Center of Kiato is only 10 minutes away.
Fire drills are weekly conducted, and the camp facilities are also equipped with an advanced fire alarm system that will activate across the entire site if one goes off. The lodging is in buildings, separated for women and men, and the full capacity is 50 people per room. Bath facilities are fully supplied with warm water and also are separated for women and men.
Shaolin Camp offers traditional training in authentic Shaolin martial arts or philosophy under the guidance of Christos Panagopoulos with his years of experience in China as also under the director Shi Miao Jie who has lived in the monastery for over 10 years practicing and teaching.
This program is open for any level, including children, adults, or elder people, and centers around training in three disciplines.
During this camp, you will learn basics and forms training, including kicks, strikes, movements, and jumps that give a highly intense cardio workout and increase stamina and flexibility.
Qi Gong is similar to yoga and strengthens the body internally and externally.
Tai Chi stimulates the movement of chi or life force, it is both strengthening and meditative.
Learning traditional and authentic Kung Fu is not the only activity in the camp. You will also be able to learn about the philosophy and history of the Shaolin Temple through lectures or on screen documentaries, and also about chan calligraphy where you will be learning about the philosophy behind Chinese characters related to martial arts.
Not only that, you will also have chan meditation sessions, so you will be able to cultivate chan mind through quiet sitting meditation. Your stay at the camp ends with a closing ceremony and every participant will receive a certificate for his work.
During this camp, you will also have outdoor activities, including mountain running, nature walks, cultivating chan mind in nature, and walks in beautiful places for practicing Shaolin.
Panagopoulos Christos has been working since 2002 as a freelancer graphic designer. His parallel interest in martial arts brought him from an early age in contact with various types of martial arts, such as boxing, Tai Chi, Aikido, Wing Chun, and others. In 2006, his love and perseverance for the authentic led him to China to accept direct knowledge from its source at the Shaolin Temple. Since then, every year, he makes a hard and difficult journey in search of the paths that keep alive the tradition and knowledge of techniques maintained from generation to generation for centuries in China.
