Tai Chi

Tai Chi, literally meaning 'grand ultimate', is also known as Taiji and Taiji Ch'uan. It was originally created as a martial art but is more commonly known today for its health benefits.

Originating in China hundreds of years ago (the exact birth is shrouded in mystery and debate), Tai Chi is also well known for containing a system of slow meditative movements, known as form, which greatly enhance relaxation and concentration capabilities. Natural outcomes of practicing the form include the reduction of stress and the balancing of one's emotions.

Before advancing to the practice of faster movements, one has to spend a long time re-learning how to move in a natural and efficient manner, utilizing proper structure, alignment, and intent. The slow, graceful, and continuous movements found in the form are gentle on the joints and muscles, so are suitable for people of all ages and fitness levels.

Tai Chi is often referred to as a type of moving meditation because it stimulates the mind, body, and spirit. In the class, you will practice the 24-form based on the Yang style which is the most popular Tai Chi form in the world.
