Qufu will take you on a journey you will never forget. At Qufu Shaolin Kung Fu School, you will learn the art of Kung Fu and Tai Chi, as well as the history, culture, and Mandarin. The training and learning will be according to your liking, whether you want it fast-paced or not. The school makes sure to present you with a lot of opportunities, and you will be the one in charge of your learning process. The team is supportive and friendly. You will find a warm Kung Fu family in Qufu.
Students studying at the school are currently being accommodated in shared rooms. All rooms have power sockets, desks, and wardrobes. Extra blankets are given to students in the winter and fans in the summer. There is also electricity in rooms and a computer with internet in the office that can be used by students.
General living conditions in China will to some extent be a reflection of a country still developing so students should be aware of this difference if coming from a western country. However the school aims to provide the students with a good standard of accommodation for them to live in. The school will try to accommodate students as much as possible. Care is also given to the preparing of the food for students to enjoy the meals and give them the energy they need to train. There are 50 rooms for the students.
There are Western toilets and washing rooms on each floor of the accommodation building. There are separate showers for females and males with 7 hot showers working at the same time. A laundry room is also available for students to do their washing with lines to dry clothes in front of it.
During the period of your stay, in two to six months, you will go over:
3-4 traditional Shaolin fist forms like Xiaohong fist, Dahong fist, Xiao luohan fist, seven star fist, Chaoyang fist, Changhuxinyimen fist etc.
3-4 traditional Shaolin weapon forms, such as yinshou staff, fire stick, Zhenshan staff, Shaolin single broadsword, Shaolin Chantou broadsword, two section staff, double staff etc
42 Yang style Taichi form or 32 Yang style Taichi straight sword.

These abilities require: agility of the movement steps, strength and speed of kicks and punches, accuracy of single moves, coordination of your body and the strength, speed and sprit of Shaolin Kungfu.
Immersive study of Shaolin Kung Fu in the culture and country of origin contributes to the unique experiences students have training at the school in Qufu. To support this, the school offers various free optional cultural classes in the evening for students to benefit from deepening their knowledge and understanding of Traditional Chinese Culture. These enable students to gain insight into the philosophies, culture and language underlying their interrelated study of Chinese and Shaolin Martial Arts. The classes are popular with students as they are able to combine their learning and stay with gaining skills such as Chinese Mandarin or the main principles of acupuncture massage.
The school offers Mandarin classes three times week. However, if you think you need more time to learn the language, you may schedule more hours on the Mandarin course.
Qufu is located in the southwest of Shandong Province, around 500 kilometers south of Beijing. It covers around 900 sq kilometers and has a population of 630.000 people. Qufu is the hometown of Confucius, the great philosopher, statesman and educator, considered to be one of the ten great sages of history. In Qufu, the Temple of Confucius, Confucius' (Kong) Family Mansion and the Cemetery of Confucius have all been designated by UNESCO as World Heritage Sites. Qufu is also listed by the Chinese State Council in the first group of 24 national famous cities of historical and cultural relics.
Students eat together in the dining hall. The meals are served in traditional Chinese style with several dishes in the middle of the table eaten with rice and steamed bread for lunch and dinner. Usually there are 4-6 students sit around one table to share the dishes. For breakfast the dining hall serves cakes, boiled eggs, fruit, milk powder, etc. Vegetarian diet is available as well.
The students are given every weekend the time to relax, play chess, and go on a sightseeing trip. Each student can travel anywhere and visit nearby attractions with permission from the Qufu Shaolin School. Sometimes the school also organizes a sightseeing trip for the students to visit Mount Tai or the Shaolin Temple in Henan Province with their masters and be introduced to the Head Abbot, the Venerable Shi Yong Xin.
The Qufu Shaolin Kung Fu School China is situated within the beautiful grounds of Qufu which is famous for being the hometown of the Chinese philosopher, Confucius. Because of this some of the attractions in Qufu is named after him. Some of which are UNESCO certified World Heritage Sites. Some of these World Heritage Sites are the Confucius Temple, Confucius Cemetery, and Confucius (Kong) Family Mansion.
Qufu is also home to a lot of attractions such as the National parks Hill Ni, Hill Shimen. Other places of interest within Qufu are the Jiuxian Mountain, Confucius Research Institute, Confucius Six Arts City or Confucius Hometown Garden, the Analects Tablet Garden, The Mausoleum of Shaohao-Shouqin, Temple of the Duke of Zhou, Temple of Yan, and the Nine Dragon Hill or Han Dynasty Tombs.
The nearest airport to the school is Ji'ning Qufu Airport (JNG) which is situated around 80 kilometers from the school and has domestic flights from Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou. The second nearest airport is Jinan Yaoqiang International Airport (TNA), 200 kilometers from the school. The Airport in Jinan has overseas flights from Paris, Berlin, Madrid, Munich and domestic flights from across China.
If you travel by air to Qufu airport, please send your arrival details to the school and they can send an English translator to pick you up on your arrival free of charge. It is also possible to be picked up from Jinan airport, but to Jinan takes 2 hours by taxi on the expressway so there is a cost for this.
It is also possible to take a bus from Beijing to Jinan (8 hours) and from Jinan a local bus to Qufu (3 hours), but bus station and information can be more difficult to find if you do not speak Chinese so going by train may be easier and faster.
Travelling in China, it is useful to have a Chinese Mandarin phrase book with you and the names of your destinations in Chinese as you can point to these when you want to go somewhere.
Arrives Qufu East
Flying to Jinan, you could instead take an airport shuttle bus or taxi to the city center and then a local train to Qufu or the little further away Yanzhou.
Arriving at either Qufu station (10 kilometers away), Qufu East station (20 kilometers away) or Yanzhou station (25 kilometers away), someone from the school can come to pick you up (without charge).
