Muay Thai

Muay Thai began as a close combat battlefield fighting skill, which is more deadly than the weapons it replaced. There are two main theories on the development of Muay Thai. One says that the art of Muay Thai developed as the Thai people moved down from China; honed in the struggle for land. The other theory of the history of Muay Thai says that the Thai people were already here and that Muay Thai developed to defend the land and people from constant invasion threats.

The latter, while controversial, has considerable academic backing and archaeological evidence to support it. The first is, however, possible as the area opened up to the early pioneers. What is known for certain is that the history of Muay Thai was an essential part of the Thai culture right from its dawn, and in Thailand, it is the sport of kings.

Muay Thai has changed across the years and evolved from a battlefield close quarters killing ground technique based on a fighting tradition passed on from generation to generation up to the present time. But despite the changes of history, Muay Thai has lost none of its exotic appeal and even mystique. Muay Thai is still the fighting art to beat. It is the fighting art that defeats all challenges from Kung Fu, Karate, Taekwondo, and the latest kickboxing fashions. They have all come to Thailand, not just once but many times and from many places to test themselves.

Canoeing/kayaking is available primarily in the neighboring Phangnga Bay and Krabi

Bungee jumping is held at the Kathu to town road.

Exploring Phuket City and Old buildings. Within Phuket city you can explore, on foot or any means of transportation, the fascinating Sino-Portuguese architecture that is evident in the citys shop houses. This provides the city a charming atmosphere and a very 19th century ambiance.

Snorkeling can be enjoyed throughout Phuket and is particularly enjoyable at easily accessible reefs of Patong, Karon, and Kata beaches.

Scuba diving is most popular at Phuket, the Phi Phi Islands, and the neighboring Krabi province, which is about 2 hours west of Phuket. Similan Islands, which is 110 km northwest of Phuket and the Raya Islands, 1 to 3 hours away, south of Phuket, are also popular scuba diving destinations. Additionally, Phuket diving sites are among those considered to be the best in the whole world.

Visiting Patong Beach, the most develop, most vibrant, and most visited beach of Phuket. It is about 15 kilometers away from the city. It offers a wide range of accommodations, shopping arcades, magnificent leisure activities, and energetic nighttime entertainment. Patong beach is ideal not only for swimming but also for lounging around and doing challenging but fun water sports.

Visiting Bangtao Beach, a large open bay that has one of Phuket's longest beaches. It was used for tin mining before but is now developed into a luxury resort. Most of it is occupied by the Laguna complex, a massive five-hotel development with a golf course.

Visiting Kata Beach, a more family oriented and peaceful beach that retains its village feel. The Kata beachs clear water is flanked by hills and the beautiful Bu Island sits offshore.

Visiting Karon Beach, the second largest tourist beaches. Large resort complexes line the road behind the shoreline, but the long, beach itself has no development with the clean, white sand squeaking audibly when walked upon. The southern point has a fine coral reef stretching toward Kata and Bu Island.

Visiting Laem Phromthep or Phromthep Cape, one of Phukets most important landmarks. This place is one of the must visit places in Phuket, which if you fail to visit is like missing the whole point of visiting Phuket. The Cape is well attended especially in the evening, as it is a popular observation point at sunset.

Visiting Laem Phromthep is located approximately 2 kilometers away from Rawai Beach.

Visiting The Viewpoint, the famous observation point of the Kata Noi, Kata, and Karon beaches, located on the road halfway between the Nai Harn beach and Kata beach. This spot that has an intriguing view of the 3 beaches and Ko Pu up to now is constantly impressing visitors.
