Muay Thai

Muay Thai is a combat sport that uses stand-up striking along with various clinching techniques. This physical and mental discipline which includes combat on shins is known as "the art of eight limbs" because it is characterized by the combined use of fists, elbows, knees, shins.

Muay Thai is associated with a good physical preparation that makes a full-contact fighter very efficient. It became widespread internationally in the twentieth century, when practitioners defeated notable practitioners of other martial arts.

Muay Thai can be traced back to the 16th century, developed from the fighting style of the famous fighter Nai Khanomtom. Its ancestor is Muay Boran (or “ancient boxing”), which in the 1930s was formalized with rules and equipment influenced by Western boxing.

Petchyindee Kingdom

Petchyindee Kingdom is a real Muay Thai gym in Bangkok that has full facilities to serve everyone: fitness, sauna, Thai massage, and room accommodation. They also have Muay Thai classes with qualified trainers. They are in Muay Thai field for over 40 years, so if anyone who is interested in Muay Thai and wants to have new experience, Petchyindee is the best choice. It takes only 10 minutes driving to Khaosan road.

Petchyindee Boxing Camp was established in 1976 by Mr. Virat Vachirarattanawong, also known to the boxing world as "Tycoon Nao". At that time, he was not a boxing promoter. He was only the owner of a boxing team who offered boxers to promoters to organize fights. Back then, he only had 10 boxers in his camp.

Two years later, Tycoon Nao was invited by Lumpinee Boxing Stadium to organize a boxing event on the occasion of its anniversary. That was his first boxing promotion. It was held at Sanam Luang area on the 5th of December 1978.

Initially, he organized a boxing event under the name of "Petchpol Fight 1" as a promoter who was invited by Lumpinee Stadium to organize an event to celebrate its anniversary. On that day, he earned THB 1.5 million from ticket sales. There were no foreigners at the event and the ticket price was only THB 150. Since it was held on His Majesty the King's birthday anniversary, all the boxing fans in the stadium lit candles to wish His Majesty the King happiness. On that day, famous boxers like Wichannoi, Padetsuk, and Khaosod, were fighting. It was in the time when "Commander Chai", Commander in Chief Chai Ditsayadej, was the manager of Lumpinee Stadium. Three years later, he became the promoter of Lumpinee Boxing Stadium.

Tycoon Nao has almost missed many chances to become a boxing promoter. At that time, Lumpinee Boxing Stadium asked him to be a promoter three times. Unfortunately, he rejected all offers because he did not want to become a boxing promoter. Finally, Commander in Chief Suthee Promjairuk, who was the head of boxing events at Lumpinee Stadium at that time, acted as an coordinator to invite Tycoon Nao to be a promoter. Again, Tycoon Nao told Commander Suthee that he was not "ready". However, Commander Suthee said that this time he did not invite but "forced" Tycoon Nao to be a promoter. Therefore, Tycoon Nao could not reject anymore. He then became the youngest promoter at that time when he was only 36 years old.

Tycoon Nao, the Youngest Boxing promoter in Thailand, gradually accumulated expertise and experience from his boxing camps until his boxing fights were well acclaimed by boxing fans. That is why in 1982, Lumpinee Boxing Stadium appointed him to be the official promoter of Lumpinee Boxing Stadium to organise "Petchyindee Boxing Fight". Since then, its slogan of "Petchyindee Boxing Fights: the proven quality fights" has been proven true until today.

In 1998, he organised a new style event. In this marathon tournament, boxers would have to win three fights in one day to claim the championship. Since then, this kind of 3 round event has been prominently organized both locally and abroad. In one of such events, Buakaw Por Pramuk, fought and won against a Japanese boxer to win the championship. One year later, K-1 events were organized and Buakaw was invited, he won the championship for two consecutive years.

Apart from organizing local events like Petchyindee fights at Lumpinee Boxing Stadium, Tycoon Nao plays an important role in promoting the sport to be recognized internationally. He once led teams to fight in Los Angeles, the United States of America, and then in many more countries.

Starting from organizing 16 events per year, nowadays Petchyindee organizes over 200 boxing events per year with over 60 boxers in its own boxing camp and over 1,000 boxers in its network.

The taking over by Tycoon Nao's son is nothing unexpected. This is because he has absorbed and experienced the best martial art since he was born. He was raised by his family without realizing that Thai boxing would become everything in his life. He dreams to develop Thai boxing to have more value in the eyes of people in Thailand and in the world. He also believes that every Thai is born with something good, which is the valuable treasure left by our ancestors. Unfortunately, Thai people overlook it and never give it enough importance. Therefore, he has a strong determination to promote Thai boxing in earnest.

Consequently, he has become a part of Petchyindee since 2007. When it became his full-time job, he could see the problems and the view points of the people outside the boxing society. This results in the decreasing number of boxing viewers every year. Therefore, he is determined to try his best to create quality boxing fights so that the viewers would turn to watch boxing. Throughout the past 5 years, he has created many successful boxing fights.

Based on the legend of his father who was the youngest boxing promoter over 10 years ago, today, at the age of only 25 years old, Boat or Nuttadej Vachirarattanawong is appointed by Rajadamnern Boxing Stadium as the youngest boxing promoter in the history of Thai boxing industry. Petchwiset promotions was launched on the 7th of February 2013 and all tickets were sold out. This proves that Boat is truly qualified in organizing events.

Petchyindee Academy

The dream of the second generation to develop Thai boxing camps to reach the international standard is no longer just a dream. In 2010, Petchyindee Academy was founded to produce a new generation of qualified Thai boxers in the Thai boxing industry. For example, SamA Gaiyanghadaogym, Nong O Gaiyanghadaogym, Petchmunkong Gaiyanghadaogym, Prakaisaeng Gaiyanghadaogym, Roongpetch Gaiyanghadaogym, Yodthuanthong Petchyindee Academy, SamD Petchyindee Academy, Petchmorakot Wor Sungprapai, and over 30 other boxers. Petchyindee Academy was voted the Best Thai Boxing Camp in 2011.

The Next Step of Petchyindee

Today, Petchyindee would like to "upgrade the boxing industry in Thailand" and "make Thai boxing contemporary" in the eyes of the Thais and people around the world. They want the pride of Thai boxing arts to remain in the next Thai generations forever.

"I had a great time at the Petchyindee Kingdom and would defenttly go there again ! My first day there I took a Taxi there, and it was a bit hard for the taxi driver to find the place! Make sure you have the destination written down and maybe a picture of the map. I did not know that Petchyindee Kingdom did offer taxi service to pick up and drop off students from the airport! It’s good to know the area don’t have much of tourist activities and also no night life you do need about 30 minutes taxi drive to find some bars or shopping. I stayed for 3 days and took the Private King Bed option, they are still building the gym so the Massage place and some other facilities was not done, so in the beginning I was wondering what I signed on for. But I got great service, and the rooms they had was really good, everything was new and clean and designed for fighters with nice decorations, it was much nicer then 4 star hotels I booked in Bangkok. The gym facilities were nice, and had a very complete set of weight equipment’s, new and state of the art treadmills and spinning bikes could not be more then 3-5-month-old. They did have spa place as well that was included to the gym with steam-sauna and sauna with TV!. I really liked the ice-pool that helped on the hot-days to cool down after working out in the hot sun. There was something written down that no woman were allowed in the pool, did not understand? I am a beginner in Muay Thai, so the instructor had to begin from the basics. They were used to total-beginners and did a great job to get me started throwing punches and kicks until I was exhausted. I was really pleased with my training sessions that lasted around 1-1.5 hour each time with the instructor, I would recommend buying more private lection if you stay there I had one in the morning and bought one extra in the afternoon. Finally, they have a cafeteria that offer a lot of healthy food to eat after practice! Next time I would stay for at least 7 days next time! Thanks for a great time Petchyindee Kingdom and hope to see you guys soon again!"

"This was an amazing experience to be part of and I totally enjoyed my stay. The location is on the outskirts of Bangkok about an 1 bus ride. The BTS will not get you there. I got off at the Pata Shopping Center and had to walk about 30 minuntes though a residential neighborhood to get to the training facilities. Don't come at night as you will have a hard time seeing the signs or getting someone who speaks English to help you. When I got here someone directed me to the front desk area of the facility. It is more like the reception desk of a spa. It is a 5 story walk up and I walked up to my 4th floor room. On the first floor besides the check in a cafeteria that you and all the other professional fighters and visiting fighters can eat. You can order off the menu or get something from the buffet line if they are all eating. The sauna and jacuzzi is also located on the 1st floor. The second floor is the training gym, weights and equipment area this is were everyone trains. There are classes all day long. Private and group lessons. The 3rd to 5th floors are sleeping quarters and you I had a private room. It was large spare but totally fine. I had two training classes that were taught by world champion boxers. They taught me a little bit about the customs and how to enter a ring who to bow to and why. The training was as grueling as you could take it. I started by stretching and loosing up. I was punching and kicking the pads while they coached me on the proper way to punch and kick. After training you rest and eat something at the cafeteria and get to do it again the next day. Some fighters come for weeks or months. There is no tourist activities or thing to do close at night besides just to train. It was fun being in a training facility. I would say if you are coming to train exercise a bit before you come. Push ups, sit ups and just jump rope would help you. Before you leave get a picture with you instructor and buy a t-shirt. You earned it."
