During this training, you will stay either in a shared or a private room at the retreat house in Messinia. The little retreat of paradise is hidden in a 5,000 square meters enclosed estate of peace and tranquility, located in one of the most beautiful parts of Greece, Filiatra Messinias. You will live on the grounds with three friendly dogs and two cats.

There are a one-bedroom house and two studio bungalows with en-suite shower facilities, comfortable for two persons in each one. The retreat experience is genuine, simple, and at one with nature, and this is reflected in the accommodation. You won’t find any shiny cutting edge technology but you will experience a warm, comfortable, and simplistic accommodation in a traditional Greek and English family hospitality style.

Set in 5,000 square meters with the smell of orange, lemons, and olives groves, along with the distant roll of the sea that promotes your body, mind, and soul to relax and rejuvenate. The peaceful gardens give a relaxing opportunity to enjoy some vitamin D in your spare time or just an easy five-minute walk brings you to the closest beach. In the evening, you can watch the sunset over the sea from the roof terraces as you try meditative Qigong.

At the end of the day, your room will be your little sanctuary in which to rest, relax, and recoup. The guests are either a small group of friends, couples, families, or solo travelers who are looking for the alternative to the larger group retreats that are offered.

This training is designed for those who wish to discover their inner strength with the practice of Tai Chi and Qigong. During this training designed for beginners, you will practice up to six hours of Tai Chi and Qigong sessions daily.

You will enjoy sunrise hikes and Qigong practices next to the sea and within the beautiful nature retreat, experience the famous Gialova Lagoon, one of Greece's hidden treasures that could easily be mistaken for the Caribbean. You will also take a trip to the beautiful Neda Waterfalls natural spa waters. You will also receive a Tai Chi booklet so you can register what you learn and keep the contacts for future information and to keep you motivated.

About Tai Chi

Tai Chi is a Chinese exercise designed to relax the body and mind and to increase physical and mental energy (chi). The result is better health and a feeling of well-being. It provides gentle physical movement of joints and muscles, relaxes the body and the mind, and develops concentration.

Tai Chi is designed to help the body maintain balance and flow. Tai Chi advocates say that this soft martial art helps to release the energy flows from the body. When these energies are trapped, the body can become ill and unwell.

About Qigong

Qigong creates an awareness of and influences dimensions of your being that are not part of traditional exercise programs. Most other forms of exercise do not involve the meridian system nor do they emphasize the importance of including mindful intent, breathing techniques with physical movements. When these dimensions are added, the benefits of exercise increase exponentially.

The gentle, rhythmic movements of Qigong reduce stress, build stamina, increase vitality, and enhance the immune system. It has also been found to improve cardiovascular, respiratory, circulatory, lymphatic, and digestive functions.

During this training, you will enjoy guided scenic walks in the picturesque natural beauty areas of Messinia. You will enjoy a trip to the beautiful waterfalls of Neda, as well as a trip to the Gialova Lagoon.

Waterfalls of Neda

In central Messinia, well hidden among the hills is the gorge of Neda, there is a small green paradise that mother nature has provided with waterfalls where their streams create consecutive ponds and more waterfalls surrounded by lush greenery and flora.

  • Nasos Mystriotis

    Nasos is a passionate Tai Chi and Chi Kung practitioner, dedicating the last eight years to developing his teaching methods and furthering his knowledge in Tai Chi and Chi Kung. He has studied Tai Chi in his native homeland, Greece, and in China, developing his Yang style technique from teachers from the line of Master James Fu. He is a personal trainer and a juice therapist. His passions are Tai Chi, Chi Kung, physical fitness, and having a healthy living.

This training will take place at Messinia, Greece. Messinia will take your breath away with its diversity, from ancient Greek history to its vast olive groves, green valleys, mountains, gorges, and coves. There are numerous small or long sandy beaches, small mountainous cliff-hanging villages with breathtaking views that hide beautiful gorges, and waterfalls.

Messinia is home to Voidokilia Cove, which is not only one of the most beautiful beaches in Greece but also in the Mediterranean Sea. Voidokilia is hidden behind sand dunes, which seem to be protecting its secret of magic beauty.

The beach of outstanding beauty lies beneath the Old Frankish castle (Paliokastro) and the cave of King Nestor, the ancient King of Pylos, who according to legend, used this cave as a haven for his cattle.

From Voidokilia Beach you can pass onto the lagoon of Gialova through a natural path to observe the lagoon’s bird life and the fascinating world of one of Europe’s most important wetlands.

Three daily healthy meals plus water, tea, smoothies, and fresh juices will be served during this training. You will also enjoy a meal in a traditional Greek restaurant. Special dietary requirements will be catered with raw, cooked, and vegetarian options.

Enjoy the crystal clear beaches, nature walks, cycle through the groves, or just relax and rewind in the grounds and try the other exercises that are offered that include yoga, pilates, corrective postural exercise, juicing, smoothie, and cooking lessons.

Enjoy cuddles with the friendly furry friends (they are in separate areas to your stay but are always happy to be included in a cuddle if you so wish). Scuba diving, horse riding, kayaking, spa treatments, and trips to ancient Olympia can be arranged for an additional cost.

Southeast of Messinia, between the Ionian Sea and the Messinian Gulf, you can visit the picturesque town of Methoni with its ancient castle. A place which used to be one of the most important routes in the maritime history of the Mediterranean.

Arrival by airplane

Please book your flight to arrive at Kalamata International Airport (KLX). Transfer from and to this airport is included in the price. Natural Zest will pick you up from the airport. Alternatively, you can arrive at Athens International Airport (ATH). Transfer from and to is airport is available upon request.

The nearest airport to the base in Filiatra is in Kalamata, where flights run from March until October. The second nearest and the biggest airport of Greece is in Athens, with year-round flights. Many international airlines fly directly to Athens from all over the world.

Arrival by bus

There is a good bus service between Athens and Kalamata bus stations. Transfer from and to Kalamata Bus Station is included in the price. Buses run almost hourly (transfers by car can be arranged at an extra fee). The journey from Athens via Corinth takes about two and a half hours to the Zest retreat in Filiatra and takes you through some stunning Peloponnese scenery.
