Systema is a Russian martial art that is about 10 centuries old. Whereas many martial arts have been preserved in their traditional forms, Systema has continued to evolve through modern warfare. As such, Systema covers empty-handed, work with all kinds of weapons, all terrains, standing, ground fighting, health, mobility and psychology, and much, much more.

Practitioners are taught to be non-aggressive, subtle, hugely effective, healthy, and calm. You develop a deep understanding of human nature. There are no forms, stances, techniques or grading systems, just natural movements adhering to four key principles: breathing, relaxation, movement, and structure.

The system can be practiced well into old age as it does not rely on strength, dramatic movie-style kicks, twists or spins, just simple, effective natural movements, originating from a calm body and mind. The goal of Systema is to develop calm, stable, strong individuals who are able to protect themselves and others, performing the ordinary under extraordinary circumstances.

Living Systema

At the camp, you will be together 24 / 7. It is an ideal time to begin to understand and refine how you build the feeling of Systema into everyday life. For five days, you will live, train, and immerse yourself in a holistic approach to Systema and life.

A full day of training may seem like a lot. However, the unique methodology of Systema training will leave you feeling relaxed, whole, and invigorated. Stresses and strains will fall away leaving you with greater levels of physical and emotional health and well-being.

Without a solid grasp of the basics, it is hard to progress either your health or your fighting skill. Over the five days, you are going to take the time to deeply explore the fundamental aspects of Systema. The course is suitable for men and women of all ages and skill levels. You must be 18 years of age or older.

Some of the covered topics

  • Breathwork for health, psychological state, and self-defense
  • Health: understanding how to use the principles of Systema (breathing, movement, relaxation, and posture) to improve overall health and feeling of well-being
  • Movement: learn and enhance your basic understanding of distance, timing, and precision. Grappling and striking, on the ground, standing, multiple attackers, and crowds with and without weapons, in open and closed environments, by day and night
  • Strikes: working to find the relaxed heaviness that allows for free, fluid and deep strike work from any body part
  • Tactics: how to use positioning, terrain, and obstacles
  • Awareness: the outdoors is the best place to open your senses and your awareness. You will learn tactics and techniques to improve your general and tactical level of awareness

Learn new skills

Kit packing

Lean kit packing is a skill. Learn what is essential and non-essential for five days in the woods. A full kit list is provided.

Fire lighting

This is probably the key survival skill. Feel the deep sense of satisfaction of being able to get a fire going without matches.

This is a dying art. Learn the basics of navigation by map and compass.

Tarp and hammock

Did you ever spent a night under the stars? This is the ideal time to try sleeping in a hammock or bivvy bag under a tarp with the forest as your walls and the stars as your roof. Of course, you can stick to a tent!
