In a time of high stress and fear, the benefits of Systema are even more valuable. Due to the events around COVID19, the classes at Matt Hill Systema Academy will be held online for members and have also opened up options for non-members. They have had people join classes from all over the world. Families members are also welcome to join in and have already been doing so!

If this is your first time joining a Zoom class, please try to log-in early, check that everything works, then you can leave the meeting and join 5 mins before the start time.
When you join, you will be able to talk with and see other participants while you wait for the class to start. In the bottom left-hand side of the screen, you have the option to mute yourself and turn off your video. You can disable your video if you like and/or mute yourself and just sit quietly and wait. This just means that people cannot see you or hear you. You will be able to see and hear everybody else.
There are 6 classes per week. The classes are 1 hour long. The classes are mixed ability and suitable for everyone. Numbers are capped and details of classes will be sent out before each session by email so please sign up below to be notified.

The main focus of the training is on breathing, movement, relaxation, and a range of activities to promote health and wellbeing. Some classes will have different focus areas ranging from: Core movement work to improve strength, flexibility, fluidity, recovery and endurance, self-massage, partner massage, mobility, ground flow, guided breath walks, balance work, rolling, and much more.
Systema is a Russian Martial Art that is about 10 centuries old. Whereas many martial arts have been preserved in their traditional forms, Systema has continued to evolve through modern warfare. As such, Systema covers empty-handed, work with all kinds of weapons, all terrains, standing, ground fighting, health, mobility and psychology, and much, much more.
Under the teachings of the Russian Masters Mikhail Ryabko and Vladimir Vasiliev, Systema is now taught as a complete system of health, combat, self-defense, and a way of living your life. Practitioners are taught to be non-aggressive, subtle, hugely effective, healthy, and calm. You develop a deep understanding of human nature. There are no forms, stances, techniques or grading systems, just natural movements adhering to four key principles:
The Systema can be practiced well into old age as it doesn’t rely on strength, dramatic movie-style kicks, twists or spins just simple, effective natural movements originating from a calm body and mind. Systema has unique methods of dealing with tension and fear, the biggest obstacles to effective self-defense. The goal of Systema is to develop calm, stable, strong individuals who are able to protect themselves and others; performing the ordinary under extraordinary circumstances.
Matt Hill is the owner of his Systema Academy in Wiltshire in the UK. He started training in the martial arts in 1987 and by 1991 was living as a full-time student of the famous Aikido Teacher Morihiro Saito Sensei in Iwama, Japan, where he lived for two years. Matt began his study of Systema in 2003. Matt is a qualified Systema instructor under Vladimir Vasiliev, a 5th-degree black belt in Aikido and an ex-Parachute Regiment Captain. He teaches full-time at his Systema Academy as well as leading seminars throughout the UK, and around the world.
This training is conducted online. Matt from Matt Hill Systema Academy is based in Melksham, UK and he will live-stream the classes based on BST (GMT +1) during summer and GMT for session/s after October 25th, 2020 Zoom. You can participate from the comfort of your home by just using your phone or computer.
