What does Muay Thai training consist of?

  • Running: Muay Thai fighters run. Running builds stamina, endurance, and cardio conditioning to prepare for a five-round Muay Thai fight. Running is not mandatory, apart from those preparing for a fight, but strongly suggested.
  • Warm up: running on mats, skipping rope, and calisthenics followed by stretching. Warming up is important to prepare the body for peak performance and to minimize the risk of injury.
  • Shadowboxing: shadowboxing helps develop neuromuscular familiarity in executing different physical movements in fighting sports. Loosens up the muscles and joints and prepares the nervous system. It improves footwork, coordination, and muscle stabilization, technique, visualization, cardio, and conditioning.
  • Technique class: instruction and correction on various techniques and combinations by the trainers.
  • Boxing sparring: controlled sparring with 16-18 oz gloves and optional head guard, focusing purely on boxing.
  • Muay Thai sparring: controlled sparring with 16-18 oz gloves, shin pads, and optional head guard, working on offense and defense using punches, kicks, clinching, and knees.
  • Pad work: at least three rounds of hitting pads with the Muay Thai trainers, working on developing correct technique, speed, power, and stamina.
  • Bag work: at least three rounds of working techniques on a variety of different bags.
  • Clinching: clinching with a training partner, working on gaining positions of control throws and light knees (using the inside of the thigh to strike with to prevent injuries during training).
  • Conditioning: drills on the bag, pull ups, push ups, sit ups, weight training.
  • Cool down: calisthenics and stretching to improve flexibility and help the body recover from hard training.

Location

Surrounded by mountains, farmland, and lush tropical forest, the gym is only 15 minutes from Phuket International Airport. Just a short jog or bike on quiet, traffic-less roads to picturesque Mai Khao Beach, one of the island's most undeveloped treasures. Amidst beautiful white sands and extraordinary sunsets, they will get you into the best shape of your life! They offer a unique treasure: world champion trainers, a dedicated healthy-living café, edible gardens, and a micro farm.

All amenities can be found within five minutes of the camp with two 7-11's, a grocery store, pharmacy, and plenty of restaurants and cafés. The beach is simply stunning! The north of the beach is mostly uninhabited, with serene sunsets and perfect white sands. To the south, you can watch planes landing right above your head at the most famous photo spot on the island.

Things to do (optional)

Activities in the area include the International Wake Park, Splash Jungle Water Park, Dino Sea Park, and Sirinat National Park, where you can visit nesting sea turtles. The world-famous Soi Dog Foundation is also right around the corner, where you could go help rescued street dogs and cats.

This is not the place for party animals, more for people looking to really develop themselves physically and mentally. However, you will be only 30 minutes to Tesco Lotus and 45 minutes to an hour to Phuket town, where you could enjoy all the shopping and nightlife you could ever dream of.
