The rooms

All standard rooms have a TV with cable channels that include worldwide news and film The room have a large fridge/freezer, hot showers, and a choice between air conditioning or used of a fan. We provide all towels and bed linen.

Facilities and amenities

Fitness center: The fitness centre is located on Long beach, next to the Muay Thai Boxing Stadium. There are professional personal trainers available for sessions at the Fitness Centre, enquire at the fitness centre or more details. There is an outside area behind the Fitness Centre that has 3 punch bags and room to workout, stretch, or practice your shadow boxing Muay Thai Techniques in a quiet place. Gloves and pads are available to borrow. There are also assortments of free weights, Swiss balls, and kettle bells.

Internet access: Lanta Gym Muay Thai has free WiFi (wireless internet) for our guests to use at the gym and in their rooms. We can also help with printing, copying, and fax. (This may incur extra charges though.)

Maid & laundry service: We have a maid service that services all rooms on a weekly basis. The housekeeper is always available if you would prefer a more regular service, clean sheets or towels. Laundry service is available at the Lanta Gym Muay Thai, we charge the standard 30 THB per kilo and the wait is approximately 1 - 2 days. If the service is unavailable there are many places close by where laundry is done at the same price.

William's Stadium: William's Stadium is located on Long beach next door to the Fitness Centre and William's caf. The Stadium is a regular Sunday night out for Thai's and tourists on the island. It has a capacity of nearly 1,000 people and average crowd numbers are between 100 - 600 on Sunday night. It is a great night out with approximately eight real Muay Thai fights and at least always one of them includes a foreign fighter. There is a bar serving alcoholic/ soft drinks and a buzzing atmosphere that people with an interest in the sport will enjoy and also appeal to those who just want to experience Thailand's national sport. We sell VIP ringside tickets for the best view and tickets for the stands. If you are staying at the gym you will receive a discount on the price of the tickets. We encourage fighters to train with us and then represent Lanta Gym Muay Thai in the ring. We have a contract that fighters sign and we provide all the training and fights with a commitment to a fight every two weeks


Typical training session

A training session lasts from 60 - 90 minutes. If you are an advanced student or training for a fight, a run before your training session in the gym is advised. Typical training session will start from 8 a.m. in the morning and 3 p.m. in the afternoon with a break from 11.30 a.m. - 3 p.m.

A training session consists of: warming up with foot work practice on a tractor tire or skipping. Shadowboxing, where you can practice all the techniques of punches, kicking, knees, and elbows. Pad work with a trainer (3 - 5 rounds) then bag work and finishing with body conditioning e.g. abdominal exercises.

When you finished training there is lots of time spare for exploring Koh Lanta. The beach is only a few minutes from the gym, accessible by motorbike and the whole island is easily accessible by car, taxi, or motorbike. We can assist in arranging motorbike rental and advising on places of interest.

In the afternoon from 3 p.m., we repeat running and training exactly the same as the morning. Two Muay Thai training sessions are available every day, with many of the experienced fighters taking part in both and maintaining a strict training routine.

For those training for fitness rather than fighting, the choice is yours when you come along. Missing a lesson is no problem and our trainers will adjust every class to the students taking part.

Beginner / taster sessions

For complete beginners we offer private sessions where the trainer will dedicate a full 90 minutes to assisting you with warm-ups then demonstrating and practicing Muay Thai techniques. This is available throughout the training times with no need to book in advance.

Lanta Gym students

The gym is open to all regardless of your level of experience, gender, and age. We have private sessions that are perfect for beginners. For 60 - 90 minutes you will have one-to-one with a trainer who will go through warming up, stretching, the different Muay Thai techniques, pad work, and bag work. Lanta Gym also has about 30% women and 10% children from the ages of 5 years old and upwards. It is common in Thailand to start Muay Thai training at a young age.

Muay Thai training tips

When you start, it is best to take things slowly with a focus on proper body movements. Muay Thai training is hard work and the art takes many years to master. Whatever training routine you follow be realistic about your limitations and patience. Everyone is different and it will take time for you to discover your individual strengths.

Take at least one day off from your Muay Thai training every week.

Don't eat a meal directly before a Muay Thai training session, leave at least two hours before you train and try to eat at least 20 minutes after you train.

Always do some form of warm up and warm down with stretching.

All Thai boxers enjoy regular massage to keep muscles supple.

Avoid drinking excessive amounts of water during Muay Thai training sessions but stay hydrated, your trainer will advise when to drink.

When training in Thailand, we recommend rehydration drinks after training sessions, in order to replace the salts lost through sweating.

There are many variations to Muay Thai techniques and styles depending upon the trainer, where they come from and their teachers. Listen to your instructor, listen to your body and you will soon discover all that Muay Thai training has to offer you.

Muay Thai

Muay Thai is Thailands national sport as well an intrinsic part of its history, heritage, and culture. Its ancient origins can be traced back to Muay Boran or ancient boxing, a form of unarmed combat used by Siamese soldiers.

The province of Ayutthaya, is the home of its legendary hero, Nai Khanom Tom, who according to popular narratives, gained his freedom from the former Burmese rulers by emerging victorious over a number of Burmese fighters with a combination of his fighting skills as well as the unique opening ritual that precedes all bouts.

The first great upsurge in Muay Thai as a sport, as well as a battlefield skill, was under King Naresuan in 1584, a time known as the Ayuddhaya period. During this period, every soldier trained in Muay Thai and could use it, as the King himself did. Slowly Muay Thai moved away from its root in the 'Chupasart' and new fighting techniques were evolved.

The word Muay comes from the Sanskrit to mean bind together It is referred to as the Art of Eight Limbs as it makes use of punches, elbows, knees, and kicks (8 point contact). A fighter is referred to as a Nak Muay and western practitioners: Nak Muay Farang, meaning foreign boxer.

Lanta Gym

Lanta Gym Muay Thai is owned and managed by William (Decha Rodraksa) a former world champion Muay Thai boxer. William and the other trainers create an excellent team with years of experience in all aspects of Muay Thai boxing techniques. Many past and present champion fighters help every student achieve the most from their training. Lanta Gym welcomes all students from all backgrounds.

Men, women and children can train in a safe and relaxing environment under the guidance of our fully qualified instructors from the Sasiprapa and other famous gyms throughout. We aim to create a friendly environment where the trainers are approachable and work within your ability, if you are a beginner or more experienced there is always challenge.

For the more experienced Thai boxer, Lanta Gym Muay Thai can organize and train you for bouts all over Thailand under the close supervision of the former world champion and owner William. We can help you fight your way right to the top in Bangkok! The gym is open daily from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. You are welcome to arrive without booking ahead to view the facilities and see what we have to offer. Gym location

The gym is tucked away 100-meter from the main road that runs along the East of the island. We are opposite Phrae beach, a left turn after the main turn for the old town and opposite Relax Bay resort road.

Koh Lanta

Lanta is located in south east Thailand. Its nearest main town and airport is Krabi. It lies on the west coast of Andaman Sea in between Krabi and Phi Phi Island. Koh Lanta is famous for its stunning scenery and coastlines, fantastic white sandy sea fronts, plenty of green lush mangroves; coral rimmed beaches; and rugged tree covered hills.

The island Is 6 km wide and over 30 km long consisting of 9 beaches from north to south. This western facing sunset coast is referred to as Long beach. Koh Lanta is so special in comparison to other islands in Thailand, not only is it beautiful but the locals are exceptionally nice and friendly.

It is a peaceful place and although there are the fair share of restaurants, bars, and parties it is ideal for focusing on your training and taking good care of your body, mind and health. Due to the island being small and friendly the treatment in the gym, is unlike other bigger gyms busier gyms so you are always guaranteed a one-to-one time with a trainer in every session.

Breakfast is on offer for all guests at Lanta Gym Muay Thai. There is muesli, yogurt, fruit, and orange juice for breakfast. We also have coffee and tea, these items are in the gym office and guests are welcome to help themselves for breakfast and hot drinks throughout the day.

Williams caf

Williams cafe is located next door to the Fitness centre on Long beach, the caf serves real espresso Lavazza coffee for your pre or post workouts or just meeting friends. We sell a range of cold and hot coffee. Williams Caf is the only place on Koh Lanta to serve delicious Lavazza coffee, in a relaxing and comfortable environment. There are also protein shakes, fruit shakes, a selection of healthy small meals, and snacks. There's also free WiFi available to all customers.

Things to do (optional)

Diving: Diving is popular on the island and there are many companies offering great excursions. The companies we recommend are: Lanta Diver; KonTiki Diving; Hidden Depth Diving; and Lanta Fun divers.

Lanta Animal Welfare: Lanta Animal Welfare is a caring sanctuary for the animals on Koh Lanta, you can spend a day visiting and taking a dog for a walk.

Lanta market: The local Lanta market is at different locations on the island during the week, there are various different cooked food to buy and also fresh ingredients to make your own.

Lanta old town: The old town on Lanta is a great place for a day trip; it has a costal sleepy village with various shops and restaurants to explore. If you are lucky to be there in March, joining the old town festival in celebration of the sea gypsies is a must. It is a celebration of the island that goes on night and day, featuring food stalls and traditional Thai gifts.

Night fishing: The local Fishermen are known to bring tourists on their evening excursions; you can also organize an official trip and even embark on night fishing for squid.

Orchid nursery: Visit the Orchid nurserya combination of an orchid farm and an exhibition that shows all stages of nursing orchids, from the minuscule seeds to the flowering orchid plant. The exhibition with colored photographs and explanations in different languages helps the visitors to understand the complicated life cycle of the orchid family.

Paddle sports: You can also try a day doing paddle sports stand up paddleboard (SUP), windsurfing, kayaking, surfing, and more.

Thai cooking school: If however you also want an insight into the fantastic cuisine that Thailand is well-known for there is the Thai cooking school, "Time for lime" that offers professional & fun Thai cooking classes conducted in their open-air beachfront cookery school kitchen. Thai language course: If you are planning a longer stay on the island you could also consider a Thai Language course at the local school Lanta International Language School which has a holistic and unique way of teaching Thai.

The Khao Mai Kaew Caves: The caves are also a popular attraction where you can explore the vast caverns, housing spectacular stalactites and stalagmites.

The National park: There are many activities and places to visit on the island. One of which is the National Park. The National Park at the southern tip covers 50% of the island and boasts134 sq. km. of trees, flowers and animals with coral reefs and beautiful natural scenery. The area is protected by The Wildlife Fund and Royal Forestry Department of Thailand.

How to get there

Arrival by airplane

Krabi is the nearest airport. You can also fly to Phuket and get a bus or boat to Lanta.

Arrival by boat

You can also get a boat from Phuket (3.5 hours) or a Speedboat from Phuket (1.5 hours); from Phi Phi (1 hour); Ao Nang (1.5 hours); Railey (1.5 hours); Minivan from Krabi town and airport (2 hours) Phuket (4 hours) All times are approximate and at the discretion of the tour operator.
