In this 'taster' immersion course, you'll learn the basics of both Kalari yoga and Kalarippayat and receive a theoretical and practical introduction to the healing art of Kalari Chikitsa. After 7 days, you'll have an individualized program that you can follow which will include the first 7 postures (Vadivu) of Kalari yoga and the first forms of Kalarippayat. You shall also learn simple treatments that will give effective relief for several musculoskeletal problems including joint pain and muscle strains.
You will stay in your own bungalow at JJs resort in Hin Kong, one of the best restaurants in the area! Rooms are facilitated with a double bed, fan and private bathroom, near to the beach and a short ride from Srithanu. Guests requiring AC will stay at a bungalow near the beach.
Meet at Namaste Yoga Farm in Srithanu at 16:00 on the afternoon of day 1 (Sunday) for an induction to the course and an orientation to the different locations you shall be working in. Adam from KalariLAB will also take you to where you shall be staying for the next 8 nights.
Classes will then begin on the morning of day 2 (Monday) at 07:00.
Daily morning and evening training in both Kalari yoga and Kalarippayat will give you the opportunity to practice and memorize the early postures and forms and you will soon see their effect on your body. You will gain flexibility and strength much faster than you would during many other yoga practices.
Daily theory sessions will begin to delve into the science of Nadi and Marma, the channels and vital points of the subtle body. In support of this a thorough scientific rationale will be given to validate these eastern ideas, explaining the neuromyofascial anatomy and the impact of Kalari training and treatment upon it.
Kalari Chikitsa treatment sessions will follow the traditional path of observing, receiving and then learning different techniques. Repeating them several times during the week until you feel competent to practice them yourself. This practical knowledge will be linked to the theory covered in the classroom sessions, ensuring you have a rounded and clear understanding of what the treatment is doing and why it is effective.
Furthermore, you will have the opportunity to receive full body massage treatment from an experienced Kalari Chikitsa therapist should you wish to experience the effects of the treatment yourself - this would be at an extra cost.
On day 9 (Monday), you shall then meet again with Adam at 09:00 at Namaste Yoga Farm for a final meal, discussion, presentation of certificates and to go through the training manual. If needed , transport can be provided to get you to the pier.
This rhythm is open to change as per the needs of participants.
You will follow the same rhythm for all days except day 5 (Thursday) which will be a day of full rest. This is necessary to allow the body to remain in good health.
This yoga retreat will take place in Srithanu, Koh Phangan, Thailand.
A substantial breakfast is served at Namaste Yoga Farmand is included in the cost of the course. There are many food options available to suit all dietary requirements. Tender coconuts are given after both morning and evening training sessions. Fruit is provided every day for you to take home and to have at Namaste Yoga Farm.
