Join this martial arts and yoga retreat with KalariLAB on tropical Koh Phangan in Thailand. Over one month, you will see changes in your body and mind, as it becomes stronger and more flexible. In this intensive course of 20 days study and 4 days of additional activities, you will learn the foundations of Kalari yoga, Kalarippayat, and Kalari Chikitsa (treatment), to a level at which you will feel both competent and confident to practice independently. You will receive a full scientific explanation to support all aspects of practice.
You will stay in your own bungalow at JJs resort in Hin Kong, one of the best restaurants in the area! Rooms are facilitated with a double bed, fan and private bathroom, near to the beach and a short ride from Srithanu. Guests requiring AC will stay at a bungalow near the beach.
You will gain a solid understanding of the theoretical background and scientific explanation as to why Kalari is an effective system of training, treatment, and rehabilitation and be well prepared to advance onto the upcoming teacher assistant course. You will also learn how to assess and treat acute injuries using Kalari techniques, including sprains, strains, both muscle, and joint pain. The course will be limited to 6 participants to ensure the individual needs of all participants are met fully. Build a solid foundation in your body and mind!
Kalari is reputed to be the oldest martial arts system of Asia, with roots dating back 5000 years. It is a precise system of body conditioning that builds all the attributes of the warrior (strength, stamina, explosiveness, fluidity, balance, and core control) while also building the mental attributes (grounding, discipline, respect, and focus).
It is both a yogic and Tantric practice (balancing the male and female) whilst also being shamanic in its design (reaching altered states of consciousness and channeling these energies). Kalari is suitable for all ages and for both men and women. Traditionally women have practiced Kalari for many thousands of years.
After years of study in both theatre and dance, Adam Phillips is convinced that Kalari builds in the practitioner a control and precision in the movement that is unparalleled in other systems of movement training.
Learn Kalari Nadi massage (30 hours over 10 days). This is the first of the 7 massage series in Kalari Chikitsa, a full body oil massage done using the hands that is effective for many musculoskeletal and neurological conditions. Meet at 02:00 at Namaste Yoga Farm for induction to the course and orientation to the locations you will work in. There will be a group dinner with other students.
Meet at 09:00 at Namaste Yoga Farm for group breakfast, giving of certificates and to go through the training manual.
Note: All excursions are included in the course but are optional for you to participate in.
This yoga retreat will take place in Srithanu, Koh Phangan, Thailand.
A substantial breakfast is served at Namaste Yoga Farmand is included in the cost of the course. There are many food options available to suit all dietary requirements. Tender coconuts are given after both morning and evening training sessions. Fruit is provided every day for you to take home and to have at Namaste Yoga Farm.
A complete 7 or 14-day package of Kalari Chikitsa massage and other treatments including Khizi (for chronic muscle pain) and Dhara (for chronic joint pain) can be made available if you wish, either during or after the course. This will be at an additional cost.
