Adam Phillips has been practicing Kalari for almost 20 years, first encountering the practice as an actor in training. In 2001, he visited India and became a student of Gurukkal CM Sherif at Kerala Kalarippayattu Academy (KKA) in Kerala. Since then, he has become a senior teacher of the school, and is now one of the most experienced non-Indian practitioners of the art, leading workshops in UK, Poland, Serbia, Czech Republic, Russia, Greece, and Italy.
In 2016, Adam relocated to Ko Pha Ngan island in Thailand and founded KalariLAB as a center for teaching, treatment, and research into the martial and healing art of Kalari. Since then, several hundred students have trained and received treatment at KalariLAB and the center is now becoming well recognized and receiving students from all over the world.
In response to the request of many of his students, Adam has created KalariLAB Online: an online learning environment, the first online virtual school and what is becoming the first online encyclopedia of the techniques within Kalarippayattu. KalariLAB Online has been designed to provide ongoing support to existing and future students of Kalari and to form a strong and vibrant community of practitioners, to bring cohesion and motivation to students globally.
Adam has been practicing Kalari for over 15 years, teaching since 2006, and working as a therapist in Kalari Chikitsa since 2005. He also studied physiotherapy at the University of London and worked in several physiotherapy departments in the UK, treating musculoskeletal, respiratory, and neurological conditions. In both his teachings and treatments, he now draws on these two bodies of knowledge to provide the most holistic approach possible.
Dr. Caoru Osani (MD, BAMS, PGDYN) is a fully qualified Ayurvedic Doctor who trained in Rajasthan, India. She is also a student of Kalarippayattu since 2003, also of KKA in Kannur. As a member of KalariLAB, she offers Ayurvedic consultation and prescription of medicines and diet/lifestyle indications to all students partaking in the immersion courses. She also offers consultation to clients outside of these courses, on request. Later in 2019 and 2020, she shall be leading the Masterclass: An introduction to Ayurveda, with both theory and practical classes on Koh Phangan.
This training is conducted online. KalariLAB is based in Koh Phangan, Thailand but they will live-stream the classes from London based on BST (GMT +1) during Summer and GMT for sessions after October 25, 2020 via Zoom. You can participate from the comfort of your home by just using your phone or computer and watch the recorded lessons and videos and practice at your own pace within the period of subscription.
