Today, you live in a time where you are in contact with people nearly every day of your lives. Knowing how to negotiate this landscape and maintain your life force energy is one aspect of the teachings of Kalari. Some lessons are not found through words but through the art of movement. Like yoga, the art of Kalari arose from observing animals and through the study of nature. Kalari and Ayurveda are tools to connect with the nature within yourself.

Each day, you will focus on Kalari, the traditional Indian martial art study and practice with Ashan Vinildas Gurukkal. Sessions will include performance and interactive talks, inclusive of background, philosophy, marma vital point knowledge, energy principles, and elemental theory.

You will participate in two Kalari classes daily. The morning classes are for energy activation, and the evening classes will help you to focus on channeling the flow of energy, concentration, on breath, and quiet movements. To complement your Kalari classes, you will also be attending Yin yoga and Nidra yoga classes with Maya Gayle. You will have plenty of time to relax and unwind in the healing tranquility of the Alpujarra mountain forests.

About Kalari

Kalari Yogham is the method of practice of the Shivashakthi Kshethram school of traditional Indian martial arts, teaching practitioners to break through limitations and open to insight, leading to a total transformation of self becoming Madhira Menni, which indicates the body becoming a living temple.

Shivashakthi Kalari Kshethram follows the way of Siddha tradition through arts and sciences of the Siddha tradition by analyzing the nature of reality. It is a transformative process leading to the realization of universal consciousness.

Kalarimurai and Kalarippayattu

Kalarimurai and Kalarippayattu are ancient art forms from Southern India. Their origins can be traced back to the Dravidian culture. The poothara (shrine) is at the sacred core of Kalari with its energy being based on Kundalini power and the forces of nature. The fundamental aspect of Kalari is to energize prana. Through Kalari practice, pranic channels will clear up, enabling the student to realize this force. Through conscious control, it can then be applied to their own physical and spiritual way.

The Siddha tradition is the seed of Kalari culture. Through continual practice, there will be a development of concentration, breath, flexibility, body balance, stamina, speed, accuracy, mental strength, and alertness.
