Taekwondo is a modern martial art, characterized by its fast, high, and spinning kicks. There are multiple interpretations of the name taekwondo. Taekwondo is often translated as 'the way of hand and foot', specifically:
Tae = 'to strike or block with the foot' or 'to kick', it also means 'jump'
K'won = 'Fist', 'to strike or block with hand'
Do = 'The way of' or 'art'.
Put this together and Taekwondo means: "The art of Kicking and Punching" or "The art of unarmed combat". The sport has been founded in Korea and is one of the popular modern martial arts.
Taekwondo has four disciplines: patterns, sparring, self-defence, and breaktest. It is the combination of these four disciplines that makes the art called Taekwondo.
to develop an appreciation for Taekwondo as a sport and as an art
to achieve physical fitness through positive participation
to improve mental discipline and emotional equanimity
to learn self-defense skills
to develop a sense of responsibility for one self and others
Chois Castelldefels was founded more than thirty years ago in 1978 by Choi Won Chul, a Korean Consul based in Barcelona, and many of his students opened several clubs all over Catalonia with the name of Choi's. Under his management, the gym soon became the most important of the group. In 1983, Eusebio Agustín López became the senior Master of the gym giving way to its golden period. Under his watchful eye, several students achieved regional, national, European, world, and Olympìc tittles.

The gym is strategically located and very well connected with Barcelona. It is even closer to the airport.
The charming town of Castelldefels is well known for its fine grained golden sand beach. It is 4.8 km long with an average width of 80 m. The townspeople are open, friendly, and helpful.
Barcelona is located in the northeastern part of the Mediterranean coast of the Iberian Peninsula. It is the second largest city in Spain in both size and population: more than 4 million for the Barcelona metropolitan area. It is also the capital of Catalonia, one of the Spain autonomous regions. There are two official languages spoken in Barcelona: Catalan, generally spoken in all of Catalonia, and Castillian Spanish.
Barcelona will be always associated with the powerful and splendid Modernisme architecture (Catalan Art Nouveau) of Antoni Gaudi. But Barcelona is also the city of Picasso and Miro. It’s also a home for gorgeous beaches, serene parks and gardens, uniquely preserved medieval historic quarter Barri Gotic, fine museums, and elegant restaurants with gastronomical delights.
Your trip to Barcelona will most likely be a journey of discovery. Barcelona and the rest of Catalonia are very different from the rest of Spain. For centuries, the Catalans were fighting for their cultural identity. Here is your chance to learn something new about the Catalan language, people, history, and traditions you may have known very little about.
It is well worth buying a good guide book to Barcelona. If you own an iPod or MP3 player, then audio guides can take you through Barcelona on guided walks, good for students and exchange students.
Campers will enjoy Mediterranean diet provided by the hosting families.
