Capoeira Lesson

You will have one 1.5 hour class a day, three times in the week, which will also give you time to explore other parts of this beautiful island. Or you can add more Capoeira lessons to your program, just let Brazil Trails know. It does not matter if you are a beginner, a beginner with some experience or an experienced Capoeira player; Calunga, the Capoeira Master and his colleagues, will give you personal attention to your ability level. The classes will be in Calungas training center, and there might be options to train in the open air in one of the many beautiful beaches of the island or some other special places where there might be a Capoeira event that week. Besides the Capoeira training, you will also discover more about the local nature where you are playing, and help out the environment by planting a tree in the wood nearby.

Depending on the season you come, Friday evening is the time of the weekly Roda de Capoeira, when the Capoeira students and teachers get together. In the evening you will play in the Roda to practice what you've learned during the week.

You may also take part in a Berimbau workshop, where you will learn to build a berimbau, and will be able to take the one you've made back home. Berimbau is the typical capoeira musical instrument. As soon as your berimbau is ready, you will also have the chance of trying it and learn the basics of this musical instrument.

The project

The cultural initiative Ilha de Palmares is in its third edition of the Project Capoeira, Environment and Social Integration. The objective of this project is to pass to the children in Barra da Lagoa area, the education and the social valorization through Capoeira practice and access to the culture. Today, the project supports more than 130 children between 7 and 14 years old from the poor communities. During the program, you are given a chance to be involved in this project.

Brazil Trails provides other activities that you can add to your program, like surf lessons, hikes, photographic tours, white water rafting and more. For more information ask your questions directly to Brazil Trails who will be happy to assist you.

  • Master Calunga

He also has a degree in physical education. Master Calunga started the Ilha de Palmares initiative which aims to pass to the children of the Barra da Lagoa area, the education and social valorization throughout the practice of Capoeira and access to culture. The project is currently supporting more than 130 children aging 7 to 14 from the poor communities.

Enjoy relaxing on the beach, activities like surfing and hiking among other outdoor activities in Florianopolis, the island that at the same time that has all the comfort of a lively and developed urban centre while providing a close contact with nature. That is one of the reasons why it is the capital with the best quality of life in Brazil.

The sea, mountains, lagoons, and a well preserved large portion of the Atlantic Forest make up beautiful scenery. The island is about 90 kilometers long and 18 kilometers wide. The nature has never gathered so much beauty defines the city anthem. The 42 beaches of the city are its major attraction. Surrounding the whole island, which is not at all small, there are more than 100 kilometers of coast, and one beach overcomes the other in terms of beauty, in a fabulous sequence.

Besides having fisherman villages that seem to have stopped in time, such as Ribeirao da Ilha, Sambaqui and Santo Antonio de Lisboa (where the best oysters in the country are cultivated, and trying this shellfish together with shrimp becomes almost compulsory), almost 50% of the island is covered by the green of Mata Atlntica, a vegetation that is richer than the Amazon in terms of species. Because of that, Florianopolis has a kind of playground for nature lovers, with over 30 tracks, both marked and signalized.

The car rental was uncomplicated and everything worked out very well. The trail was fantastic and we were so glad to have a guide, as the way was not always easy to find. "The service was excellent from Brazil Trails. It was really good to meet Renata at the airport and she was extremely helpful and friendly. The information she gave us was very useful. It was really useful to be able to pay by credit card. We had previously tried to contact Pousadas in Barra individually and they tried to make as pay by bank transfer which was impossible from other countries. The accommodation Pousada Mar do Leste was excellent, very close to the beach, great breakfast and very clean. The family who ran it were very friendly, and we communicated somehow by a bit of English and a bit of Spanish! We would definitely recommend the Pousada Mar do Leste to anyone."
