Brazil Trails invites you to join a refreshing Capoeira training in a beautiful part of Brazil, Florianopolis. Here, you will find ideal conditions to learn and to improve one of the most traditional and beloved Brazilian sports, Capoeira. The training will take place at a cozy and enchanting training center, Ilha de Palmares or Island of the Palm Trees. Other classes might be held open air near a beach and sometimes in a special space where a Capoeira event might take place. Enjoy beautiful scenery, professional teaching, exotic culture, open and friendly people, and a relaxing atmosphere far away from the hustle and bustle of big cities while getting all the comfort that you need at the same time.
Accommodation will be at a bed & breakfast in Barra da Lagoa, Florianopolis. You can choose between a single and a double luxury room which have the following features:

By the time you request the quote you will be informed of the best option available. The bed and breakfast close to the beach are 3 kilometers to the Capoeira Center. You can ride a bus then walk 10 minutes. Or you can let Brazil Trails know if you´d like a rental car.
You will have one 1.5 hour class a day, three times in the week, which will also give you time to explore other parts of this beautiful island. Or you can add more Capoeira lessons to your program, just let Brazil Trails know. It does not matter if you are a beginner, a beginner with some experience or an experienced Capoeira player; Calunga, the Capoeira Master and his colleagues, will give you personal attention to your ability level. The classes will be in Calungas training center, and there might be options to train in the open air in one of the many beautiful beaches of the island or some other special places where there might be a Capoeira event that week. Besides the Capoeira training, you will also discover more about the local nature where you are playing, and help out the environment by planting a tree in the wood nearby.
Depending on the season you come, Friday evening is the time of the weekly Roda de Capoeira, when the Capoeira students and teachers get together. In the evening you will play in the Roda to practice what you've learned during the week.
You may also take part in a Berimbau workshop, where you will learn to build a berimbau, and will be able to take the one you've made back home. Berimbau is the typical capoeira musical instrument. As soon as your berimbau is ready, you will also have the chance of trying it and learn the basics of this musical instrument.
The cultural initiative Ilha de Palmares is in its third edition of the Project Capoeira, Environment and Social Integration. The objective of this project is to pass to the children in Barra da Lagoa area, the education and the social valorization through Capoeira practice and access to the culture. Today, the project supports more than 130 children between 7 and 14 years old from the poor communities. During the program, you are given a chance to be involved in this project.

Master Calunga has been teaching Capoeira for more 26 years, and has gotten his title as master ten years ago. He has taken part in courses and workshops all over Brazil. He also has a degree in physical education. Master Calunga started the Ilha de Palmares initiative which aims to pass to the children of the Barra da Lagoa area, the education and social valorization throughout the practice of Capoeira and access to culture. The project is currently supporting more than 130 children aging 7 to 14 from the poor communities.

The sea, mountains, lagoons, and a well preserved large portion of the Atlantic Forest make up beautiful scenery. The island is about 90 kilometers long and 18 kilometers wide. The nature has never gathered so much beauty defines the city anthem. The 42 beaches of the city are its major attraction. Surrounding the whole island, which is not at all small, there are more than 100 kilometers of coast, and one beach overcomes the other in terms of beauty, in a fabulous sequence.
Besides having fisherman villages that seem to have stopped in time, such as Ribeirao da Ilha, Sambaqui and Santo Antonio de Lisboa (where the best oysters in the country are cultivated, and trying this shellfish together with shrimp becomes almost compulsory), almost 50% of the island is covered by the green of Mata Atlntica, a vegetation that is richer than the Amazon in terms of species. Because of that, Florianopolis has a kind of playground for nature lovers, with over 30 tracks, both marked and signalized.

Florianopolis is linked to the continent by 3 bridges in the central portion of the island. It is 700 kilometers from So Paulo, which means 7-hours drive to the southern of Brazil.
There are about 10 flights a day from Sao Paulo to Florianopolis, and about 5 flights a day from Rio de Janeiro to Florianopolis. The flight from Rio takes about 1,5 hour.
There are direct flights from many cities from the US or from Europe to Sao Paulo. From there you can get a direct flight to Florianopolis.
