Erika Mitchener from ePower Fit in New York City stepped into her first martial arts class at 12 years old. Her formative teenage years were spent training hard in the dojo. Guided by her instructors, she went from shy to strong, from a low-self esteem to confident. She trained and competed successfully in karate tournaments and at the age of 16 was the youngest ever in her dojo to earn the rank of black belt in karate and exemplified-jujitsu. With the black belt rank, came the responsibility and honor of instructing children’s classes and assisting to teach the lower ranks in the adult class.
