Royal Cottage was built as a place to stay for Queen Victoria during her 1859 visit to the nearby Victorian waterworks which were to supply the growing city of Glasgow with clean water. These historic engineering works can still be seen working to this day. Today, Kim and Alex welcome you to their comfortable highland escape complete with wood-burning stoves, cozy bedrooms, and unbeatable views of the wild surroundings. The location is secluded and quiet and you cannot help but relax in the environment. With no more than eight guests one time, the experience is kept personal, peaceful. and sociable.

The accommodation comprises of single, double, or twin rooms sharing two shower rooms and one bathroom. They also have one en-suite double room. Meals are shared around a large dining table with views of the Loch and they have a further snug, cinema room, and study for you to relax in at the end of the day. They provide towels, a hairdryer and refillable hand soap, shower gel, and shampoo to all guests.

Program

Your activities are sociable and done in groups of no more than eight. Before arrival, Beyond Fitness will make an effort to understand everyone’s ability and they will adapt accordingly. There are so many options in the local area so they are sure they can find something to suit everyone.

Workout

Outdoor workouts are carried out on the grounds of Royal Cottage with stunning views across Loch Katrine. They will last around an hour including a warm-up and cool down. Using ladders, steps, cones, and hurdles as well as some lighter weights, your workouts aim to get your heart rate up and test your agility, coordination, and balance.

Included excursions

Hiking

Local hikes take in the surrounding lochs and forests as well as some higher moorland areas. Further afield you can take advantage of higher peaks such as Ben Venue and Ben Lomond. Your hikes will usually take between three and five hours so come prepared with good footwear and outdoor clothing. Do not worry about snacks. Beyond Fitness provides a range of homemade treats to keep you going.

Cycling

There are numerous road and mountain bike routes that you can do straight from the door of Royal Cottage that take you through the stunning National Park. Your bike trips will usually last between two and four hours. They provide all cycling equipment including bikes and helmets but if you would like to bring your own, just let them know.

Location

The retreat will take place in Stirling, Scotland, UK. Beyond Fitness hosts the retreat in the stunning Royal Cottage set right on the banks of Loch Katrine in the Trossachs National Park, Scotland. This cottage has extensive grounds that serve as the outdoor gym for the morning workouts and a place to unwind in the afternoon. It is situated down a private road with the nearest neighbor one kilometer away, the perfect setting to escape the crowds and the city for the weekend. There are beautiful views throughout the whole Trossachs. You will use the weekend to explore the lochs, forests, and hills of the Trossachs National Park.

All meals, snacks, and drinks are included in the price. All food is prepared and cooked on-site and can be catered to any specific dietary requirements, including vegan and vegetarian options at each meal. Where possible, Beyond Fitness source their ingredients locally and even grow some themselves. The food is designed to be shared and whilst they try to keep everything healthy it is also wholesome. Extra meals will be provided in between if you need that little extra to keep you going. Coffee, tea, homemade smoothies, and juices are available and they even have a little beer or wine with dinner.

Driving directions from Aberfoyle

  • Follow the B829 for 25 minutes along a winding road until you reach a T junction.
  • Turn right for Stronachlacher.
  • Take the next right in under 100 meters where you will see a sign for Royal Cottage.
  • The private road is gated, please leave the gate as you find it.
  • Drive along the single-track road for 5 minutes until Royal Cottage is seen on your left.
